The Young Carer Grant is available to 16, 17 and 18-year olds who spend on average 16 hours per week caring for someone who receives a disability benefit. The grant amounts to £300 per annum and is available to 16 to 18-year-olds who don't already receive Carers Allowance, with the aim of helping in a transition period in young people's lives (for example, finishing school or starting a new job), however the money can be spent by the recipience in any way they like.
The grant opened to applications on 21st October and applications can be made:
- By phoning Social Security Scotland for free on 0800 182 2222
- By paper form that can be downloaded online or requested using the above phone number.

Young people may also be eligible for the Young Scot Young Carers Package - #YSCares. This is open to young people aged 11 to 18 who live in Scotland and who care for a family member or a friend.
